I’m a pedorthist. Is it surprising that I want to talk about shoes?
It took time to get cycling shoes that my feet were almost happy with, time figuring out what would go inside the shoes, and I still have some tinkering to do. While wearing previous pairs of cycling shoes I had a lot of pain and numbness in my feet, meaning I couldn’t enjoy my rides. My current shoes and modifications let me enjoy the rides to the fullest. Finding the right shoes for your feet is definitely worth spending extra time.
There are three parking lots listed on the website for the gorgeous Markin-MacPhail Westside Legacy Trail. Having biked the trail before, I planned to start at the middle parking lot and bypass the two black diamond (difficult) segments. That way I could do an easy 5-10km ride, as my ride on day 2 already included hills and day 1 included sprints.
I forgot that there are actually a few more small parking lots along the way (haha)… Started at the second black diamond segment, so I still ended up with hill workouts. Had a great cycling buddy to keep me going and the views were spectacular as always.
T’was the night before the Great Cycle Challenge… and I had a flat tire?!?
Spin bike has proved a fun back up for smokey days and when the weather looks like hail and thunderstorms, so it was easy to reserve a bike for my first ride before taking the bike to the shop for pre-challenge treatment.
