Surprise, the trails are open and almost 60 km of trails into Halifax. Great weather the whole 606km! Dragged rain gear all that way! Anyway the trails were great today. Such an easy last day. Glad to get off the bike but already can't believe we did that trip. Packing up bikes tomorrow. Will be a sad day but holidays are not over yet. Off to Newfoundland soon!
Today was a hot day on the roads. Very sunburned from our sailing on the bluenose II. Loved the afternoon sail! But today, cycling to Queensland on our way back to Halifax. Was a long day on the bike since we detour a lot. Had to ride to Oak Island. Unfortunately they were shooting the show so could not explore too much. Anyway at a little Inn that gave us a bottle of wine! Happy to rest after 68 km on mainly roads.
Digby has great scallops but the rest was ok. Roads ok. Still not able to get on trails. Drivers are crazy here so not much fun riding right now. Also nothing much for scenery. Was supposed to stay in Kempt for 2 nights but B&B cancelled due to water pump broken. Unfortunately that meant instead of a 68 km ride, we would have to do 130 km ride. I couldn't do that so we stayed at B&B with no water. No showers or toilets. But at least we had a bed. Today we cycled to Bridgewater. Much better day today!
We made it to Annapolis Royal, NS. Great little spot to enjoy the bay and of course the apple cider! Still restricted to riding roads so way more km and dealing with cars. A little rain today so fingers crossed that the trails open soon. No signs of smoke or forest fires even though they are only a few km away. Strange this province thinks closing trails is a good idea. Silly folks!
Made it to Kingston without going on the famous harvest trail. Trails still closed. Anyway we found some quiet roads for the 54 km ride from Wolfville to Kingston. Stopped at a great cider for our lunch stop. Then on to Kingston. Found a Michelin star spot in Kingston. Who knew that blue cheese kettle chips would make your mouth water for more. And the beers good too! Roof Hound brewery is such a sweet surprise.Living the best life!
Today is a rest day!!! So happy about that. Stella Rose B&b did a great job at charging us up for our day. Trails are still closed due to weather but really it's not that dry or hot here. Anyway the dyke trail was open so if course had to check it out. Then we headed to wineries but roads closed. So I went around the signs and continued on. We were the only ones at the wineries. First stop had great food but the second stop, I actually said to the owner that I couldn't drink any more. I think he was excited to just drink and talk. Never experienced 5-6 ounce glass with 6 tasting before! Could barely ride back to b&b and I'm not a lite weight!
Well we had a great night at a heritage place that is an Inn. Lovely cooked breakfast then on roads. Stayed mainly back roads and slow day with rolling hills. Beautiful area. Stopped at a winery. Then on to Wolfville. Arrived at a little b&b. Just about to go explore the town but off the bike. My legs need a little rest! Living the slow life and loving it.
We made it to Nova Scotia. Bike in tack. Did a little riding around Dartmouth. Left Dartmouth this morning. Got on a great gravel trail but then about 1/4 of way, trails closed so on the roads. Very heavy traffic and really hot. Got to Windsor after 70ish km. Tired legs now!
Well Firefly sure looks squished! But making it work 😕 lucky for me to have a handy husband since I couldn't figure it out. Still lots more packing to do but one step at a time. Thought people might like to see how to air travel with a bike.
Last night, the final kilometers were undertaken in the heat! But boy, what a finish. With very tired legs I made it to Mile zero. Of course I had to get a picture with Terry. Sad my ride is over for this year. But don't you worry I hope to keep on posting on this site for a couple more weeks. You see, I'm off to Nova Scotia. Firefly is going on her first flight. Will post how that goes. Fingers crossed that all goes well on Porter airlines. Anyway I want to thank everyone for your support. Another amazing year!
